Arithmetic Sequences
Option 1:
1. Create an X Y table with the pattern 2. Stat Edit (enter Table) Stat Right 4:Line Reg(ax+b) 3. Write y = mx+b plugging in a and b Option 2: A(n) = A(1) + d(n-1) n = term number A(n) = nth term in sequence d = common difference (slope or pattern number) Simply write "A(n) = " then put whatever the first number of the sequence is then what the pattern is and attach (n-1) to that. Ex: 3, 7, 11, 15,... Equation: A(n) = 3 + 4(n - 1) *B/C --> 3 is the first number and we are adding 4 each time. If we simplify it we get the y=mx+b form: A(n) = 3 + 4(n - 1) Distribute A(n) = 3 + 4n - 4 Combine Like Terms A(n) = 4n - 1 y = 4x - 1. Which is the same. |
